A man who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor said items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She said the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
