19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured 21 titles at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to create a final set.

Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
